One of the most frequent questions in the community is: "What are the best combat addons for WoW?" With the launch of WoW Midnight, maintaining a clean, high-performance UI is more important than ever. Whether you are a Tank, Healer, or DPS, your interface should give you the information you need without the clutter.
I’ve narrowed my setup down to just eight essential WoW combat addons (plus one massive quality-of-life bonus) that I use for everything from Delves to Mythic+ and Raiding.
The Addon Breakdown
1. Sensei Class Resource Bar
The centerpiece of the UI. It provides three modern, sleek lines to track health, mana, and class-specific resources (like Runes or Runic Power). It’s fully editable and works seamlessly with Blizzard’s Edit Mode.
2. Arc UI
Think of this as a streamlined cooldown manager that rivals WeakAuras but feels more integrated. It organizes buffs and utility icons into clean groups and even auto-detects trinket procs.
3. Ascension Cast Bar
A simple, high-performance cast bar. Its best feature is the ability to create spec-specific profiles, allowing the bar to automatically shift positions depending on whether you're playing a two-resource or three-resource spec.
4. Unhalted Unit Frames
These are low-resource frames for players and targets. They offer great opacity settings so the UI never obscures the action, and they include smart filters to only show essential buffs and debuffs.
5. Danders (Party & Raid Frames)
The powerhouse for group content. Danders allows for role-based profiles—my frames automatically switch layouts depending on whether I’m tanking, healing, or DPSing.
6. Platy
A lightweight alternative to Plater. It features intuitive color-coding: blue for casters, purple for mini-bosses, and white for melee. It even scales up the size of a nameplate when a mob starts casting an interruptible spell.
7. BigWigs Boss Mods
The industry standard for boss timers. For tanks specifically, the "Tank Aura" feature is a game-changer, allowing you to track your co-tank’s debuff stacks without looking at their unit frame.
8. Details! Damage Meter
Essential for performance tracking. While the API has changed, Details remains the most reliable way to monitor DPS, healing, and avoidable damage.
Bonus: BlizzMove
The ultimate quality-of-life addon. It allows you to click and drag any Blizzard window (map, talent tree, spellbook) anywhere on your screen.
